Your role – Your energy makes the difference
- Proprietary Trading – Development and implementation of profitable trading strategies with access to all major liquid European power markets, with a primary focus on Central Europe (particularly Germany and neighboring countries); Power trading via major European exchanges (EEX, Nord Pool, ICE, EXAA) and the OTC landscape; Trading of gas, coal and emissions for hedging of power positions; Assessment of fair values for day-ahead products to generate trading ideas; Independent execution of trades ranging from day-ahead to front days/weeks, with the potential to expand strategies to monthly and quarterly horizons; Scope to work with the quantitative development team to deploy and monitor algorithmic trading models
- Optimization work – Future integration of optimization strategies for flexible generation assets and demand-side response within the short-term trading environment
- Collaboration – Work with other departments including Credit Risk, Market Risk, Back Office and IT to ensure seamless execution and reporting of trades
- Expert Work – Ensure all trading activities remain within strict VaR and volumetric limits; Document P&L drivers and provide regular updates on market trends and performance metrics
- Analysis – Assess meteorological input to quantify risks or opportunities resulting from possible changes in weather; Interpret flow-based market coupling (FBMC) and NTC-based constraints to evaluate potential cross-border spreads; Work with other traders and analysts to refine and calibrate our proprietary short-term fundamental power model and identify key fundamental drivers of power markets
Your profile – Your unique qualities will take you further
- Education – Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or Engineering)
- Qualifications – Minimum of 3 years of experience in short-term power trading (Day-Ahead to front month) would be desirable; Experience in trading Germany plus one or more neighbouring markets; Proven ability to generate P&L in competitive power markets
- Expertise – Deep understanding of the Central European Power Market, experience in analysing prices and fundamental data; Experience with ETRM systems. Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in Python being highly desirable
- Personality – Quick comprehension, decisiveness under pressure, strong communication skills in English and a collaborative mindset
